Meek Mill has recently been doing press for his latest album ‘Expensive Pain.’ The project faced backlash for album cover art, which people were able to get past, with many defending the work. Despite the moment, Meek’s album debuted at number 3 on the Billboard Charts right behind Taylor Swift and Drake. However, Meek has noted he doesn’t care for the Billboard chart, noting he only wants his status and success to be measured by how consumers of his work feel about it.

While speaking to Complex, Meek Mill went into detail about his feelings on Billboard, saying, “Even before my album just came out. They say it sold 90,000, I don’t know if they said that’s good or bad, but if we walk outside right now, you gon’ hear that s**t booming from Maine to Spain.” Meek was then asked about the charts and their effect and responded by saying, “Me, I’d rather take me off Billboard. You gotta think about, what is the purpose of me being on Billboard.”

The Philadelphia rapper continued, saying, “If JAY-Z talkin’ ’bout he don’t believe Billboard…he been in the game for 30 years. Why should I put myself in a position to be where they say, allegedly, something is being manipulated, and then I’m putting my brand on a list that’s being manipulated.” He concluded his thought by saying the charts aren’t related to his “marketing plan” for the album.
