According to reports, rising tennis star Coco Gauff has tested positive for COVID-19 and has withdrawn from competing in the Tokyo Olympics as a result. The news is major, as Gauff’s skills have been heralded in the same light as Naomi Osaka and Serena Williams, both trendsetters and trailblazers for Black women in the sport of tennis.

Gauff took to social media to reveal the news, saying, “I am so disappointed to share the news that I have tested positive for COVID and won't be able to play in the Olympic Games in Tokyo. It has always been a dream of mine to represent the USA at the Olympics, and I hope there will be many more chances for me to make this come true in the future."

It was noted that 17-year-old Gauff was set to lead Team USA in the Tokyo Olympics. Gauff’s appearance was going to be her first time in the Olympics. Take a look above.
