This upcoming Tuesday, it will be a year since the tragic incident that took place resulting in the death of George Floyd via the carelessness of former police officer Derek Chauvin. The death of Floyd led to numerous protests and riots across the country in 2020 and ultimately made international headlines. Now, it has been revealed that Joe Biden will be hosting the family of Floyd on the one-year mark of his death.

The hosting of Floyd’s family by Biden has been making waves, mainly because Congress has been struggling to pass a police reform bill by the anniversary of Floyd’s death. Although the House of Representatives passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act in March 2021, 10 Senate Republicans are needed for the bill to be completely passed, according to CNBC.

News of this comes following a judge’s ruling that Derek Chauvin—the man who murdered Floyd, qualifies for a longer sentence in prison. Stay tuned for more updates.
