A former police officer in Alabama was recently convicted of raping his stepdaughter and scheduled to be sentenced on April 3. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has postponed 50-year-old Pete Williston's sentencing proceeding and he is seeking a release on house arrest until courts open back up.

Williston's attorney Scot Harwell wrote in a motion to the court that the disgraced law enforcement officer would live at home while awaiting sentencing and be monitored via GPS ankle device.

The former lieutenant was convicted back in February after a swift 30-minute deliberation by the jury. The defense insisted that the acts were consensual and that Williston's stepdaughter was 16 at the time the sexual acts allegedly took place. But the prosecution noted that the girl was actually 14 at the time and therefore too young to consent.

Williston's stepdaughter took the stand and testified that they engaged in sexual acts on a weekly basis between 2008 and 2011.
