Kevin Garnett will officially live in Boston Celtics lore for time immemorial after next season when the storied franchise is set to retire Garnett's No. 5 jersey. The announcement came on Thursday night during the Celtics' matchup against the LA Clippers (whose head coach Doc Rivers coached the Celtics during KG's tenure). After the Celtics made the official announcement, Garnett issued the following statement: “I’m honored and thankful to have my number retired with the Celtics. I will always have immense respect and appreciation for ownership, Danny Ainge, Doc Rivers, my past teammates and Celtic Nation!”

KG helped the Celtics seize the 2008 NBA title after defeating Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. Garnett averaged 15.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.2 steals and 1 block in 30.9 minutes during his Celtics tenure.
