Authorities in Fort Worth, Texas, have reported that an unarmed black woman named Atatiana Jefferson was killed in her home by a white police officer who fired a shot through the woman’s window after responding to a call from a neighbor who had concerns over Jefferson’s open front door.

In body footage that has been released, the white officer who responded to the “open structure call” can be seen yelling to the woman outside of her home. The officer was looking into Jefferson's bedroom window, and shouted: “Put your hands up, show me your hands!” From there, the officer fired off one shot, which ultimately killed Atatiana Jefferson.

A community activist named Kyev Tatum was on the scene of the situation and issued a statement saying, “This was probably one of the first days that we had cool weather in Fort Worth. This was a cool evening. I'm sure she allowed the door to be open to air out the house, to get some fresh air in the house.” The neighbor who made the call said he called a non-emergency number for a wellness check and didn’t expect any aggressive response from police. The officer who shot Jefferson has been placed on administrative leave as the department investigates the shooting.
