Sadie Roberts-Joseph's death was ruled a homicide on Monday (July 15) after her body was discovered in the trunk of her car last week. Robert Joseph's community was stunned at her death, as she was a known activist who founded an African American history museum in Baton Rouge. 

The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Officer ruled that the preliminary cause of death was "traumatic asphyxia, including suffocation." The coroner's office released a statement on their findings, which read, "It is with great sadness and respect we investigate any unexpected or traumatic death. When our investigation involves an innocent victim, such as Ms. Sadie Joseph, it is particularly tragic. Our condolences are extended to Ms. Joseph's family and friends."

Sadie Roberts-Joseph, an activist and the founder of the Odell S. Williams Now & Then Museum of African American History in Baton Rouge, Louisiana was recently found dead in the trunk of a car according to reports.

The body of the 75-year-old woman was found this past Friday, and police are still unclear as to how and why she died. Police did note that Sadie Roberts-Joseph’s body was located 3.5 miles away from her home.

The Baton Rouge Police Department issued a statement on the loss of Joseph, saying “Ms. Sadie was a tireless advocate of peace in the community. We had opportunities to work with her on so many levels. From assisting with her bicycle giveaway at the African American Museum to working with the organization she started called CADAV (Community Against Drugs and Violence). Ms. Sadie is a treasure to our community. She will be missed by BRPD and her loss will be felt in the community she served.” Police are still searching for tips in her case.
