The death of Eric Garner was a shocking one because the incident was caught on tape and found a police officer choking the unarmed black man to death. Now, NYPD union lawyers are saying Eric Garner would have died anyway due to poor health.
During an administrative hearing that took place at NYPD’s headquarters, a lawyer who was representing Daniel Pantaleo—the officer who delivered the chokehold that ended Garner’s life, said “He was a ticking time bomb that resisted arrest. If he was put in a bear hug, it would have been the same outcome."
The lawyer delivered the statement during a hearing that could determine if Pantaleo will lose his job a result of Eric Garner’s death.
