A white male at Columbia University in New York City went on a tirade in front of students of color, praising the accomplishments of white men and their importance to global history. “White people are the best thing that ever happened in the world,” said the man, adding, “We are so amazing!"
The students on campus were outraged by the man's diatribe which comes on the heels of a Columbia professor's office being vandalized with anti-Semitic graffiti. University administrators came forth with a statement rejecting the man's white nationalist remarks, alerting the campus community that they “are alarmed at the rise of incidents of racism and hate speech in our world today,” and that Columbia stands “firmly against white supremacist language and violence.”
While the university is investigating the matter further, officials of the Ivy League campus assured their students, faculty, and staff that “Our community will not waver in its support for those of any faith, race, gender, sexual orientation, background or identity.”
