Patricio Manuel broke a barrier in the world of boxing, as they became the first transgender boxer to fight professionally. Along with that, Manuel won the debut match.

The 33-year-old boxer won the fight by a unanimous points decision after rounds. The fight took place in Indio, California. After the fight went down, boos from the crowd could be heard, which led Manuel to respond during an interview. Manuel said “I hear some fans aren't happy. It's OK; I'll be back. I'll make them happy then.” When asked what’s next, Manuel said “What's next? I've got some naysayers out there I need to prove that I deserve to be in here. I'm not in here for one show, one fight. This is something I love. I'm not done with this sport. I'll be back.”

Manuel is a five-time national champion from the amateur women’s division and participated in the US Women’s boxing trials in 2012 before he transitioned in 2013.
