The owners of a golf club in York, PA, are under fire after five African-American golfers, who were accused of not keeping the pace of play, had the police called on them and were booted in an alleged act of discrimination.

Sandra Thompson, Myneca Ojo, Sandra Harrison, Carolyn Dow and Karen Crosby claim that they were simply enjoying a pleasant round of golf at Dover Township's Grandview Golf Club, on Saturday, April 21, when they were suddenly approached and asked to leave. Upon asking what the problem was, the group was told that a break they took between the first and second halves of the course was too long.

Not long into the disagreement, one of the women took out her cellphone and recorded Grandview co-owner Jordan Chronister informing them that him and his father, Steve, kept track of one of their break's being 20 minutes long. "Why were you counting," she'd respond, "are you a ranger?" She also went on to point out that they could have only taken as long as the men who were ahead of them, and made note of an extensive beer break they had been on, in the process.

Northern York County Regional Police Chief Mark Bentzel has confirmed that the authorities were indeed contacted to remove the group, but that they eventually left on their own recognizance. Apparently, Grandview messed with the wrong party. Not only is Thompson a full-time attorney, former candidate for York County judge, and vice chair of the county Democratic party - she is also president of the York branch of the NAACP.
