In a new two-part documentary set to air on the Oxygen Network about former New England Patriots Tight end Aaron Hernandez, many of his personal struggles will be revealed for the first time. According to several people close to him, he was gay and struggled to come to terms with his sexuality. It was apparently a source of emotional pain that some believe may have turned him violent.

The docu-series, Aaron Hernandez Uncovered, features interviews with some of Aaron's close friends, ex-girlfriends and members of his legal team.

Alyssa Anderson, Aaron's college girlfriend, says she found out Hernandez had a relationship with a man while they were attending the University of Florida together. She claims he denied it at the time but acknowledged it to her years later.

One of the lawyers on Hernandez's defense team, George Leontire, is openly gay. He says in the documentary that he spoke to Hernandez at length about his sexuality.

"This man clearly was gay," Leontire said. "He acknowledged it. Acknowledged the immense pain that it caused him."

Hernandez never spoke publicly about being gay. He was engaged to a woman whom he had a daughter with.

Hernandez was convicted of murdering Odin Lloyd in 2013. At the time some law enforcement officials believed Hernandez executed Lloyd because he knew about his sexuality.
