The Sopranos is making a return according to Deadline. The hit HBO series will be receiving a prequel in the form of a feature film with the working title The Many Saints of Newark. This screenplay was purchased by New Line and will be set in Newark during the rioting. During this period there was heavy racial tension between the Italians and the African-Americans who resided there.

David Chase and Lawrence Konner are once again responsible for the writing of this script. Both of whom made names for themselves with the work they did for on the original series. The Sopranos ran for six seasons on HBO from 1999-2007. The groundbreaking show won five Golden Globe Awards, 21 Primetime Emmys, and two Peabody Awards. It is rumored that some of the favorite characters from the series (the ones who made it out alive anyway) will appear in the film. Most specifically Tony Soprano's father the former boss of the family, and his Uncle Junior.

There has not been a director assigned to the film, but Chase will be in charge of appointing one. He will also serve as the producer of the film.

Warner Bros Picture chairman Toby Emmerich spoke highly of Chase when talking about the writer revisiting the series on the big screen.

“David is a masterful storyteller and we, along with our colleagues at HBO, are thrilled that he has decided to revisit and enlarge, the Soprano universe in a feature film,” Emmerich said.

There is no schedule released date for the film as of yet. Stay tuned for more updates.
