Shannon Sharpe took the words right out of the mouths of thousands of Twitter followers who concurred with a tweet he felt compelled to publish after growing tired with the media's characterization of mass shooter Nikolas Cruz as a victim of circumstance, on Thursday, February 15.

"You see how they try and humanize this mofo, 'ORPHAN?'" Sharpe wrote in response to a post that Philadelphia newsman Matt O'Donnell put up, in which he noted Cruz as someone whose "troubled past" involved him being given up as a child. In seeing the disparity between the way killers of Cruz's sort are spoken about in contrast to the way killers are discussed when they happen to be Black, the FS1 host felt moved to speak.

"Blacks kill ppl and they're animals. Muslims kill they're extremists. White men/ boys kill, they're troubled. Y'all look for reasons to excuse their behavior. You and others like you, GTFOH!!!!!!!" he wrote.

Since he was tracked down and taken into custody after managing to escape Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS unscathed, Cruz's murder of 17 people has been largely chalked up to the assumption that he was driven by mental illness. This, despite the fact that there is evidence that he did have some extreme ideological leanings.
