On March 30, Netflix will premiere Rapture an eight-part docuseries that will explore the inside world of hip-hop, produced by Mass Appeal. The program will artists Nas, T.I., Rapsody, Dave East, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Just Blaze, Logic, G-Eazy, and 2 Chainz. It will be directed by Sacha Jenkins, Ben Selkow, Geeta Gandbhir, Steven Caple Jr., Marcus A. Clarky and Gabriel Noble.
Jenkins and Selkow will serve as executive producers of the show alongside Ben Cotner, Peter Bittenbender, Lisa Nishimura, and Zana Lawrence.
In a press release offered up by Netflix, the digital TV and film library says the show will allow viewers to have a full experience around the lives of their favorite hip-hop artists. It will grant access to moments in the studio, on tour, and even shed light on the family lives of some of these individuals.
“Way back, when hip-hop culture was in its gestational phase, the powerful message therein didn’t go much further than the five boroughs of New York City. Today, rap music is the heartbeat of Mother Earth, and Netflix is the embodiment of the eyes from which she sees,” Jenkins said. “It is a great honor for Mass Appeal to work with Netflix to produce our new series Rapture. We’ve been telling hip-hop stories since ’96, and as natives, we feel it is our duty to do the movement justice. Rapture is bangin’. Straight up.”
Nas has worked with Netflix before as the executive producer of the now-canceled series The Get Down. Sacha Jenkins directed Burn, Motherf**cker, Burn a film about the 92 LA Riots that was produced by Mass Appeal.
