President Trump on Wednesday boasted that his approval rating among African Americans has double amid record lows for black unemployment. Trump took to Twitter suggesting that should his policies continue to help African Americans he’ll see his support in the community ‘double.’

“Unemployment for Black Americans is the lowest ever recorded. Trump approval ratings with Black Americans has doubled. Thank you, and it will get even (much) better!”

Back in December, the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that black unemployment hit its lowest since 1972 with 6.8 percent. While numbers are dropping for black unemployment, according to CNN, only 3 percent of African Americans approve of Trump’s actions in the White House.

Throughout the year, Trump has found himself defending claims to being racist. Back in November, Trump tweeted ‘Make America Great Again’ in response to Washington Post columnist Greg Sargent’s article calling into question the racial aspect of the president’s his beef with LaVar Ball.

Recently, Trump came under fire for his alleged comments questioning why the United States would allow immigrants from “sh*thole” countries” to enter the country. The insensitive comments drew criticism from many African Americans considering Trump pegged nations with populations of mainly black individuals like Africa and Haiti as those undesirable. Following the remarks, a group of African ambassadors called for an apology, calling the remarks ‘xenophobic’ and ‘outrageous.’
