After the internet's uproar over the Black boy in an H&M product shot wearing hoodie that reads 'Coolest Monkey in the Jungle' surfaced, the mother of the young boy spoke out about not being upset over the imagery.

Terry Mango went to her social media to address the outrage and voice that she didn't understand where everyone's anger was coming from. She also revealed that she was present at the photo shoot where her son wore the outfit, putting to bed all the speculation that the fashion company photoshopped the shirt onto the model after the shoot was over. Terry and her son are from Sweden, according to her social media profile. Many believe it is likely that because they have a different racial history than that of America, there are not the same institutionalized spoils of racial microaggressions as here in the States.

Terry went to her Facebook where she addressed the situation:

“[I] am the mum, and this is one of hundreds of outfits my son has modeled. Stop crying wolf all the time, [it’s] an unnecessary issue here. Get over it.. That’s my son, [I’ve] been to all photoshoots and this was not an exception. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about this… I really don’t understand but not [because I’m] choosing not to, but because it’s not my way of thinking. Sorry.”

Since the incident, many memes with pro-black rhetoric and uplifting messages of representations have been made of the photo. While the boy's mother sees no issue with the photo, artists like The Weeknd and G-Eazy have ended their partnership with H&M because of what the image represents.
