Lupe Fiasco is well-known for his highly intelligent lyrics that push the boundaries of the human thought process about topics that people normally don't pay much attention to. That was the intent behind him crafting his new "Freedom Ain't Free" single. During a recent interview with Ebony.com, Lupe was asked about the meaning behind his "Freedom Ain't Free" single and what he wanted those who listen to it to think about after hearing it.
Lupe responded by saying:
"I question the concept of freedom. Is freedom really 'free'? You have to pay for everything; everything comes at some type of cost; are you just going from one form of subjugation to another? As I said, I am just making statements. The song is a collage of different scenes through American history, and American pop culture. The struggles of Native Americans, the black community, the white community, the struggles of the far reaches of the U.S .empires."
