Malaysia on Tuesday banned a planned concert by Erykah Badu after a photo appeared showing the Grammy-winning singer with the Arabic word for Allah written on her body.

Badu was scheduled to perform Wednesday in the Muslim-majority city of Kuala Lumpur, but some Muslim groups said the singer was an unsuitable role model for young Malaysians after seeing a photo of her with what appeared to be temporary tattoos of the word Allah on her bare shoulders.

A government committee that monitors concerts made the decision to forbid Badu's show because she has "offended the religious sensitivities" of Muslims by sporting such tattoos, an Information Ministry official said on condition of anonymity.

The 41-year-old singer had already arrived in the country when the decision was made. She can remain there as a tourist but will not be allowed to perform, the official said.

Do you think Erykah Badu should have been more conscious of Muslim sensitivities, or is this taking it way too far?
