Recently, a somber Kendrick Lamar delivered his truth about his tested faith and the requirements of being a messenger with a compelling platform, during a sit-down with MTV News. 

An introspective Kendrick asks, "How far am I willing to go to get the message across?" The good kid explains his thought process as it related to cultivating his sophomore effort, and how the appeal of making more commercial hits to appease the masses contradicted his conscience that compelled him to focus on relevant social and community-based topics. 

"Me making the decision to make this album, is just as simple as or just as hard as - however you want to put it - as me making a commercial album full of hit records. That right there is the temptation right there," revealed the "i" lyricist. Fraught by the expectations imposed by himself and his supporters, Kendrick contemplated the direction of his second mainstream release and eventually his conscience motivated him to do it his way and maintain his integrity.
