Back in the day Outkast talked to John Reed just after the release of their third studio album, "Aquemini," and spoke out against artists excessively sampling music. Big Boi explained that they like to do "conscious sampling," and admitted that the original song won't be detectable in their finished track.

During the conversation Big Boi and Andre 3000 spoke about reviving the true Hip-Hop sound with their music, and back in the 1998 interview they claimed they would never go solo. We all know history didn't turn out that way, but you can take a trip back in time in the above clip.
