Earlier this week, Snoop Dogg spoke about how battle rapping helped his career. The Hip-Hop icon spoke candidly with Battle Rap about how losing his first battle made him feel as though he lost his clout.

The Doggfather revealed that battling when he was still in high school challenged him to become a better MC. "As an MC, whenever I would want to battle, it was never about money," said the platinum-selling artist. He continued, "It was about building my pride and building up my self-esteem to where, the next time I battled another n****, I was stronger and I was better."

Soon, Snoop disclosed what it was like to lose his first battle. The "Wiggle" wordsmith offered, "The one time I did lose was because I wasn't prepared. And being prepared sometimes is just being able to capture the moment." The remainder of the "Ain't No Fun" lyricist's story was an explanation of the event where he said, "This n**** served me with a song that he wrote."

Finishing up the anecdote, Snoop then shared that the entire crowd started singing along to his opponent's song and he "didn't know what to do." Honesty enveloped his next statement, "I ain't never been embarrassed like that. But it made me want to go and get prepared."

Watch the full clip to discover how that initial loss provoked Snoop to pick up the pen, how he went from imitating those rappers he respected to molding his own voice, and how he learned to incorporate his everyday life into his lyrics.
