A man from Southeast England has been jailed for three years after he brutally beat up a female police officer while he was handcuffed in the back of a squad car.

According to the Independent, the incident happened back in July of last year when Sgt. Kerry Lawrence was arresting 25-year-old Craig Radbourne on a drunk and disorderly charge. As Lawrence questioned Radbourne about assaulting a woman during his drunken tirade, Radbourne calls the officer "strong" and looks around before jumping out of the squad car. As he overpowers Lawrence, he slams her head on the pavement several times, seen through her body-camera. The suspect takes off and the officer is left unconscious. A bystander stayed with the officer until paramedics arrived on the scene. Radbourne was found nearby and re-arrested on new charges.

Judge Susan Evans QC watched the video in court last Friday and called the incident "nothing short of sickening." Radbourne was found guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm. Chief Inspector Simon Dodds called the incident an attack while Police Commissioner Simon Hayes is disappointed that Radbourne didn't receive a longer sentence.

"I am disappointed that Radbourne has only been sentenced to three years in prison for the extremely violent assault against Sgt. Kerry Lawrence," he said. "I would hope that he is made to serve the full sentence."
