An armored truck driving in Wan Chai, Hong Kong, gave unexpected drivers a big surprise when its doors flew open and millions of dollars spilled out on the street.

According to Gizmodo, the incident happened on Christmas Eve when $4.5 million in HK$500 notes spilled on the streets. A few drivers managed to grab a good amount of cash before the police arrived. They also arrested a 43-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman after they refused to give up the money they picked up on the street. The taxi passengers later admitted to the police they hid their findings under their beds. So far, police have only been able to find a total of $US$733,256 on the road and from 27 good samaritans. Officials released a statement about the incident in hopes of luring more people to turn in the money.

"We hope those who had picked up cash on the day can return the cash to the closest police station as soon as possible so that police can handle [the matter] promptly." an officer said.
Upon investigation, Bank of China released a statement and promises to pay banks any losses they might have faced in the incident.

"Immediately following the incident, BOCHK has already urged G4S to investigate into the incident by identifying root causes and adopting prompt remediation to prevent further recurrence in the future." the statement read.
