A plainclothes cop who was seen punching a teenager during an arrest last week in New York has been suspended.

According to the Huffington Post, the incident took place last Monday on Madison Ave. after a 16 and 17-year-old were allegedly assaulting a man carrying a cane. People started circling the officers as multiple officers began manhandling the teens. Video footage above also captured the startling moment in which a plainclothes cop repeatedly punched one of the teens.

Sarah Doneghy, the woman who caught the incident on camera described one of the teens as a 12-year-old boy. Police have confirmed that the boy was actually 16-years-old. The teens have denied any wrongdoing. The 16-year-old was charged with gang assault, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest and weapon possession while the 17-year-old was charged with gang assault.

Police chief Bill Bratton broke down the arrest after announcing the officer's suspension on Friday.

"An individual ended up hospitalized as a result of a beating that he may have received at the hands of three or four young men and during the effort to arrest one of the men thought to be involved in the incident an individual that we have identified as one of our plain clothed officers runs up and appears to strike the (teen) with a closed fist twice in the side of the body." he said.
