A man who was headed to China to attend his mother's funeral was robbed of thousands of dollars by two men just hours before his trip.

According to My Fox Philly, the robbery happened around 5 a.m. on Wednesday near Oxford Circle as a friend of the victim waited outside to take him to the airport. After greeting his friend, two males approached them as one snatched the man's duffle bag. The other robber held the men at gunpoint. The victim told police his passport, iPod, Chinese currency and $7,000 were stolen during the incident.

Northeast Detective Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum spoke to reporters after releasing the surveillance video above. Rosenbaum says the money was to help cover funeral costs for the man's mother. He also informed reporters that both men carried guns.

"Here you are trying to get back home for a funeral and you get robbed and all your money gets taken," he said. "They both have guns, they come right at him, they [took] his duffle bag."

Police were able to get a still image of one of the suspects and are urging witnesses to come forward to talk about the robbery. The Oxford Circle area has seen its share of robberies this year. Over the summer, a man robbed a local Footaction at Roosevelt Mall. He is currently on the run.
