Adrian Peterson's recent child abuse case couldn't have come at a worse time, following closely behind in the footsteps of Ray Rice's scandalous video showing him KO'ing his wife Janay.  Adrian has been under the microscope for beating his son with a switch, which inflicted some serious bruising on the child's legs. He is facing up to two years in jail for the offense, and his case has sparked loads of discussions from fans and fellow celebrity figures over whether or not Adrian should be facing legal issues at all.

Alleged text messages between Adrian and his child's mother detail the beating, and fans have created loads of memes making light of the situation, but much more serious discussions have been taking place on Twitter.  While there are many people who believe that Adrian went overboard and beat his son far too violently, there are others who have defended his use of the switch to properly discipline his child.

Charlamagne spoke out in defense of Adrian, and so did Tank.  Charles Barkley even defended Adrian's choice to beat his child with a switch during a back-and-forth discussion with Jim Rome.  Charles recalled being beaten with a switch numerous times throughout his childhood, and also stated that nearly everyone in the South would be in jail because everyone beats their kids.

This form of punishment was often used decades ago in various households, and passed down over the years.  Parents who participate in these types of disciplinary actions are often known as being "old school" when it comes to putting their child in check.  However, the question remains if this type of punishment is taking things too far.

Check out what Charles and fellow celebrities and fans had to say about the situation above.
