Louisiana native Kevin Gates recently sat down with VladTV to discuss his upbringing in Baton Rouge, LA., catching his first charges as a teen and why imprisonment can do more harm than good.

Gates reveals that while he is from New Orleans, he was raised in Baton Rouge, LA., making it clear that while New Orleans is perhaps the most popular city in the state, there are so many other parts that don't receive recognition.

He also reveals that he was influenced by people who were doing the wrong things and ended up getting arrested for the first time at the age of 13 for stealing, and that he received his first juvenile charge at 15 for aggravated assault and wasn't released until two years later.

Gates says that spending those two years in juvie took his fear of imprisonment away, and that many kids in the state of Louisiana have no outlet except the streets.
