Drake had to miss out on this year's 2014 Video Music Awards due to his and Lil Wayne's "Drake Vs. Lil Wayne" tour, and as a result he wasn't able to accept his Best Hip-Hop Video Award for "Hold On, We're Going Home."  As an alternative, Drake decided to give his acceptance speech the next day, August 25th, during his Boston tour stop.

Lil Wayne introduced him to the crowd, and Drake comically thanked him as Common, who actually was the one who presented the award at the actual show.  Instead of giving a serious acceptance speech, Drake decided to take a comical approach.

"First of all, I want to thank God," Drake said to the crowd.  "I'd like to also thank thank my mother 'cause I love her very much. I'd also like to thank Lil Wayne because none of this would be possible without that man right there.  And I'd also like to say, I know this is a hip-hop award and I know a lot of you out there are frustrated, like this is not a hip-hop song. You're right, I tricked you all. Rappers better luck next year. Thank you!"
