Rae Sremmurd sat down with VladTV and explained the meaning behind their unique group name. The duo, Slim Jimmy and Swae Lee, reveal that they were going by a different name until they linked up with Mike Will Made It, who signed them to his Ear Drummers label. The two then decided to play on the label's name by spelling it backwards, which stuck with them.

When asked about growing up in Tupelo, Mississippi, the birthplace of Elvis Presley, Rae Sremmurd say that The King is beloved by everyone in the city, regardless of race. They also go into their own experiences growing up in Tupelo, and say it was really hard to have stability and make the transition into adulthood.

Moving on, the group also speak about their music career, and say that music has always been a part of their lives, but things changed drastically when they made it on to BET. Soon afterward they linked up with Mike Will, and it was nearly a year later when he signed them to his label.

Speaking of Mike, the duo say that he's shown them how to be original and work harder to achieve their dreams as artists.
