August Alsina sat down with VladTV and shared his biggest musical influences, saying Lauryn Hill was a big reason he decided to pursue singing.

"I seen her singing in 'Sister Act 2' and I...I just...I wanted to do it. When I heard her I was like 'man, I want to do that sh*t.' Her album held so much substance...she only put out one album, and it's a classic, and she's 'Lauryn Hill' off that one album."

He also reveals Lyfe Jennings was a big inspiration for him, saying he respects his honesty.

Speaking on Tupac, Alsina says he respects everything the legend stood for, and marvels at the fact that he's still one of the most popular rappers ever after having passed almost 20 years ago.
