Back in 2009, Freekey Zekey opened up about his beef with Jay Z to VladTV. He started out by explaining how he was cool with Dame Dash after Dipset signed to Roc-A-Fella, but he didn't gel with Hova.

Moving on, Freekey said that things came to a head with Jay Z when the rapper left them hanging over a verse for their album, which resulted in it getting pushed back. The Harlem emcee said that he was at the studio with Cam'ron one day when they ran into Jay Z and pinned him down for a verse. The song later turned into Cam'ron's "Welcome to New York City."

Freekey said that they then showed Jay that they could make hits on their own, and released "Oh Boy" and "Hey Ma," which led to them going platinum. The situation, along with the Roc-A-Fella split, resulted in the Dipset rapper believing that Jay was shady.
