In addition to being a highly revered MC, Chicago's Common has also become known for dating high-profile women including Erykah Badu, Serena Williams and Taraji P. Henson (he also reportedly dated Kerry Washington in 2007). In our exclusive interview with the rapper, Common breaks down just how difficult it can be to date someone in the public sphere, saying that it only becomes a real problem if the relationship itself is already shaky.

"When everything is good, you kind of know how to protect it. Even if it's people chatting about, 'man they shouldn't be together' and this and that, when the love is there and you really in the relationship, you don't care what nobody saying. But when things are a little shaky, that negative energy and negative talk kind of affects the relationship."

He shares how when he was with Badu she insisted that they keep their relationship private, which he thought was a good move, saying that while pursuing a public relationship is fine, one shouldn't live for the public, but for themselves as naturally as possible.
