14 years ago, Bad Boy shook things up in the rap scene with the release of Shyne's self-titled debut album. The rapper, whose deep, gravelly voice immediately drew comparisons to the late Notorious B.I.G., did not disappoint with tracks like "Bad Boys" and "Bonnie & Shyne," both of which were aided by the bold vocals of Jamaican dancehall and reggae artist Barrington Levy.

In the clip above he speaks with 92.3 The Beat's Julio G. on his decision to go without any features for the project. 

While it was a big thing in the '90s and early 2000s, it's not as uncommon for newer artists to come out on their own before looking to others for features. I guess Shyne might've been on to something back then.
