This throwback clip features Common's visit to 92.3 The Beat where he chopped it up with DJ Julio G about his decision to mix up his flow and incorporate conscious raps in his music, rather than stick to the grain and rap solely about more negative subjects.

Common spoke on how he always strives to make each album better than the last, and how the industry puts a label on musical genres, making it more difficult for artists to find the freedom, and more importantly, the courage to record conscious music.

This obviously hasn't been too big of an issue for Common considering he's found loads of success throughout the years by incorporating conscious raps into his music.
