Too Much? TLC Channel Airing "Best Funeral Ever" Show!

The TLC channel picked up a new show called "Best Funeral Ever," a reality program showcasing various over-the-top funerals which take place at the Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas; however, much of the show will be staged. It's meant to show viewers that certain Black funerals are supposed to be looked at as more of a celebration rather than a time to be sad and mourn those who passed. The show was originally supposed to air on December 26th, but it has been postponed until this Sunday, January 6th, to honor the numerous lives lost in the Newtown, Conn. shooting.

One of the main issues with the new show is that many of the people in attendance at the funerals who will be seen crying, smiling, etc, aren't always going to be people who knew the deceased person, but are actors who auditioned to be on the show.

I don't think I could attend of funeral of this sort but I think that it could be a good thing becuase the families are actually celebrating the life of the decease by engaging in activities that the person liked instead of crying and being sad. they are just turning a sad occassion into a happier occasion. If you don't like the show nobody is forcing you to watch it and if you don't like those kinds of funeral then don't attend them.

Funeral service is a sacred act that only a few can get it right. When families turn to us for help, dignified service and direction the last thing we as professionals should do is put on a minstrel show. I was embarrassed as a funeral director as a black man! I know they know better than that. I'm %100 positive the show will be holding its own funeral because the garbage is dead! A celebration of Life or home going is NOTHING like that in the black community. It's nothing like that in any community. Shame on you Golden Gate Funeral Home, lets get it together

Smh professional mourners wtf? Never in my life seen anything like this. I've been to a celebration of life and its mostly just upbeat music played but still sad, not bringing a casket in on a fucking sleigh and pigs in a church wow some people will produce anything

WORST SHOW EVER!!! Why do we as African Americans always have to turn everything into a party. This show is pure ignorance and f*ckery. After watchin 5 mins of this foolery I immediately turned. I guess they will make a show about anything. Instead of making us look like fools we should protray a positive light in us and this show is making it worst.... PLEASE TLC DON'T AIR THIS SHOW ANYTHING!!!!!

THIS SHOW IS REALLY SAD!! THE STAFF @ GOLDEN GATE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES,WHAT BLACK PEOPLE WITH GOOD SENSE WOULD WANT THIS FOR THERE LOVE ONES? COME ON MR.BECKWITH YOU KNOW WHAT A HOME GOING CELEBRATION IS.DON'T PLAY! ALL YOU'RE DOING THIS FOR IS THE MONEY!! This show is a disgrace to the African American community. It is way over the top and the whole message about rejoicing in death is lost. I will refuse to see the last wishing of any member of my family carried out in such horrific taste. African Americans tend to get a bad rep as it is but this bumfoolery here has put the icing on the cake. This does not represent any African Americans I know. This is just my opinion and thoughts. Tonight should be the first and last airing of the show.

I agree. This should absolutely be cancelled. This is a hotmess to the highest degree. This does not represent the African American community. This is so sickening.

I appreciate what they are trying to convey to the public in terms of celebrating the LIFE vs death. I've never experienced a home going and think it sounds wonderful. On the other hand, the delivery of the message was lost on all the drama, antics, verging on the edge of being disrespectful to both the deceased and the African American culture. I believe this show could've been produced in a much more respectful & professional manner. That delivery would have really shown me a new perspective of embracing the passing of a loved one for me. This fell short of the mark, for me at least :/
