Singer and actress Jennifer Hudson took the stand at her family's murder trial on Monday, and upon discussing the horrific events that took place, the Oscar winner became highly emotional and broke down into tears while on the stand.

She was the first person called to testify against William Balfour, who is accused of murdering her mother, brother, and young nephew four years ago in a jealous rage. Everything seemed calm as opening discussions began, but as the line of questioning became increasingly difficult, it was too much for Hudson to bare.

As she regained her composure, there was an obvious change in her voice when she spoke about her sister's relationship with Balfour.

""None of us wanted her to marry him," she said, her voice cracking as she struggled to hold back tears. "We did not like how he treated her".

After about 30 minutes on the stand discussing details, Jennifer Hudson took a seat next to her fiance, David Otunga, who is a wrestler in WWE and also known for his role on "I Love New York".

The trial, which could last up to a month, is in full swing. If William Balfour - who was on parole during the murders - is convicted, he will receive a mandatory life sentence.
