Did Nicki Minaj Exaggerate Her Dad's Abusive Behavior?

Nicki Minaj sat down with Nightline's correspondent Juju Chang for a recent interview and revealed some very personal things about her life. The Young Money rapper discussed some violence which surrounded her father in the past.
"My father was abusive. We were afraid for (my mother's) life because whenever he would have a real bad outburst, he would threaten to kill her."
Minaj went on to mention that she had wanted to kill him, and also mentioned a time when he nearly burned down the family home.
This is not the first time Nicki has spoken negatively about her dad, but this time he is responding.
Her father, who's name is Omar, admits that he struggled with anger issues during Nicki's childhood but affirms that he never reached the point of violence his daughter has been describing. Nicki's feelings are actually all new to him, as he says he was never aware that she felt like that.
Family sources tell TMZ that the rapper is painting an inaccurate picture of her dad to the world.
