The Weeknd, legally known as Abel Tesfaye, has been receiving waves of mainstream attention for his uniquely dark style of R&B. However, he is being accused by former producer Rose a Halifax of neglecting to give him the proper credit for three songs, "What You Need", "Loft Music", and "The Morning (Original Version)," which he produced for The Weeknd.
Rose also claims that he was the one who came up with the name "The Weekend", after the two began to work together, but Abel changed it to "The Weeknd" after they split. After a period of time working together, the two began to experience differences in the style of music that they wanted to create, which is what caused them to part ways.
Rose spoke to Vice.com about how he and The Weeknd came to split.
"At first it was working pretty well, but then I don't know if it was a change in his heart or the people around Abel trying to guide him, but he was starting to push for club tracks and I really didn't want to [do that]."
All Rose claims to want production credits for those three songs, and he even sent an email to remind The Weeknd of the matter. The email read, "Remember! Give me credit!"
