The previous Guinness World Record for the shortest man was recorded at 22.5 inches by Gul Mohammed. That record has recently been broken by a 72 year old Nepalese man by the name of Chandra Bahadur Dangi.
Dangi was measured by a doctor and Guinness World Record representative, and his measurements came out to be only 21.5 inches tall! He was awarded with 2 certificates for being the world's shortest living person and the shortest person recorded in the 57 years of Guinness history.
Dangi has lived his whole life in the remote village of Rhimkholi with his family which includes 5 brothers, all of average height. His limited height has restricted his working opportunities, as he has only ever worked inside of his family's home, performing regular household chores. He has never been seriously ill or injured in his life and before being measured this past Saturday (Feb. 25th 2012), he has never been seen by a doctor before in his life.
Dangi expressed his excitement to travel the world and explore new areas to reporters after his measurements were taken:
"I am very happy. Now I want to travel across Nepal and to foreign countries."
