3-year-old Hope Trott awoke in the early hours Wednesday while her family slept, put on her favorite ruby red shoes, baby blue coat, and walked out the door of her home.
The Baileyville, Maine, toddler then walked a mile in subfreezing temperatures and complete darkness, police said, before ending up a a food market.
Around 4 a.m., a man who was cleaning the Woodland Food Mart IGA, saw the girl banging on the front door and called 911. He told police she was crying and asking for her daddy.
Police say Hope was able to tell them the name of her parents, which helped them to find the family's home while she was taken to a local hospital to warm up.
The front door had been left wide open, and police found the parents asleep, unaware their daughter had left. Her mother, Laura, believed her daughter had a dream that her mother had gone to the store for pizza, so she went to find her.
