City life is movement. Movement is efficiency. And well, disruption in service, or stagnating people, cause severe issue in natural flow. Yet, as shark-minded as city-folk are, we are lenient to tourists and those lost. We'll blow past you, but the snarky comment is always optional.
On the other hand, there are people who have to handle the disruptors to this sytem. Unfortunately, the most common human delay is caused by suicide, especially for train service. London's Underground, for example, has to deal with 50 suicides annually, about once a week.
Accordingly, they've developed a rather inhumane, yet efficient flow of things. In a new documentary, Confessions from the Underground, the workers reveal they put the bodies in cupboards and bins so as not to delay the station.
Yes, it is bizarre and 'rude', but waiting for the coroner would shut down a station for hours. In fact, the safest measure is to keep with routine. Movement is good; sudden delay or closings cause further issue.
Tough job huh?
