It was a day of remembrance as Heavy D's close friends and family paid their respects at the viewing and wake service held at Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, New York on Thursday.
Flava Flav was in attendance, wearing a green velvet suit, complete with futuristic glasses, signature clock chain and white top hat. Following into the services close behind was funnyman Chris Rock.
Also at the services was Diddy, who was crushed at the passing of his close friend and revealed that Heavy D. gave him his first big break in the music industry. He tweeted earlier in the week, 'He got me my internship at Uptown. He Believed when no one else did. My Heart is Broken. Pls pray for my man Heavy D and his Family. PLS #RipHeavyD love you Boy. 4ever'
On Friday afternoon more of Heavy D's friends and family shoed up for his funeral, including Will & Jada Smith, Queen Latifah, John Legend, Usher, Jay-Z and more.
During the funeral Johnny Gill, Yolanda Adams, Kim Burrell, and Heavy D's nieces performed, while Anthony Hamilton walked down the aisle singing a somber version of Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come."
Even the Obamas sent their condolences in a letter delivered by Rev. Al Sharpton, which read: "We extend our heartfelt condolences at this difficult time. He will be remembered for his infectious optimism and many contributions to American music. Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers."
