French news channel TF1 has reported that an armed robbery took place in France over the weekend that resulted in the theft of approximately 6000 copies of Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

The report details how the daring robbery went down: two men crashed their car into a van carrying unspecified video game cargo before spraying its occupants with tear gas, then stealing both the van and all its contents.

The contents of the van were later confirmed to be thousands of copies of Modern Warfare 3, worth around $550,000. The report states that the robbers were armed with knifes, but doesn't say if anyone was hurt in the attack.

Demand for MW3 has been ridiculously high, with one copy allegedly selling on eBay for $1,700. The game officially launches tonight at midnight.
