
About 15 to 20 friends and relatives gathered in Monroe, Georgia to celebrate the 115th birthday of Besse Cooper, the world's oldest person as recognized by the Guinness World Records.
Her daughter-in-law Edith said the group gathered at a Monroe nursing home for the event. Besse enjoyed to small pieces of cake, and enjoyed a rendition of "Tennessee Waltz".
Besse Cooper was born in Tennessee in 1896, and moved to Georia during WWI to work as a teacher. She has 12 grandchildren, and more than a dozen great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her husband Luther passed away in 1963.
