Vanilla Ice Says Suge Knight Never Held Him Over a Balcony

The now infamous story of a ruthless Suge Knight holding Vanilla Ice over a hotel balcony for the rights to his multi-platinum single "Ice Ice Baby" is apparently untrue according to Ice himself.

Shortly after his album The Extreme, Ice shot to the top of the charts and signed a deal with Suge's Death Row Records. Ice lost out on millions of royalties by signing over a portion of the copyright to Suge and says that the money earned from "Ice Ice Baby" helped form Death Row Records.

"From the money that Suge got from To the Extreme from me, he started Dr. Dre," he says. "The Chronic record came from the funding from my record; Tupac came from the funding of my record; Snoop Dogg came from the funding from my record."

He says the story about hanging over the balcony is completely untrue, and added that he didn't need to be hung over a balcony to understand that it was a shakedown.

"Yes, Suge Knight took some money from me, and he did take me to the balcony, explained it to me. He was actually nice to me ... ... [people think] I'm so bitter about it—I never went to the police, I never did anything like that. hell, I'm still friends with Suge Knight ... I look at it like I've invested in some of the greatest hip-hop music in the world."
