Look out Marlo Stanfield.

The fast evolution of new technology has left the FBI two steps behind.  Now its asking Congress to take steps so it can access your telephone, computer, and wireless systems.

In testimony to a House Judiciary subcommittee, FBI General Counsel Valerie Caproni explained that it's "exponentially more difficult" to execute court-authorized wiretaps on new technology.

A prime example occurred in 2009, when a pimp used a social networking site to lure children into prostitution.  Investigators did not seek a wiretap because the website did not fit within the scope of the standing 1994 wiretap law.

The FBI is asking Congress to update the laws in order to stop these and massive "terrorist style" attacks, despite claims from critics that the laws will stifle innovation in technology.
