The drug war casualties in Mexico city continue to mount, increasing the risk for American officers aiding in the fight for cooperation between the two countries.
Special Agent Jaime Zapata was gunned down on Tuesday in San Luis Potosi while he was driving his blue suburban from Mexico City to Monterrey. The other agent present in the vehicle remains unidentified, but was wounded and is now in stable condition. A Homeland Security official spoke to CNN stating "this is an extremely serious situation and it is one that has the full attention of all corners of this department."
President Barack Obama visited Agent Zapata's parents house, assuring them that the assailants would be brought to justice and their son's service and sacrifice would be remembered.
