Recently, buzzing artist Tink spoke to NY Mag about the circumstances that aroused and helped to sustain her desire for a Hip-Hop career, and when asked about what initially motivated her to get into the game, Tink named a certain NY femcee as being a big inspiration.

The Chicagoan readily connected with Nicki Minaj due to the fact that she eloquently fulfilled the genre's void for skilled female lyricists. Tink affirmed, "I think it was the simple fact that we didn't have any females at the time! When Nicki was putting out mixtapes, she was the only female rapper that had any kind of buzz."

Continuing, Tink said, "And not to mention that she was on the track with the guys, you know? So you had the girls playing it, and you had the hood guys playing it, too, so you couldn't run away from Nicki. She was everywhere," adding, "And it was inspiring. I'll be honest with you, before I heard Nicki rapping, I probably wouldn't have thought to rap myself. Just to see a female doing it and being in there with the guys, it was motivation."

Do you think Nicki Minaj has inspired a whole new generation of female emcees to pick up the mic?
