J. Cole received a special gift from his Alma mater during his recent stop on his "Forest Hills Drive" tour, the Village Voice reports.

The rapper headed back to St. John's University for a memorable performance on Friday. Following a performance of hits from his mixtapes and albums, the rapper was surprised with what occured after the show.

Former Provost Dr. Julia Upton presented the Roc Nation artist with his college diploma. During his time at the school, the rapper tallied a 3.8 GPA and graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors in 2007, after majoring in communication and minoring in business. Because of a lost library book, the rapper was never given his diploma.

"I owed money for a library book that I didn't turn in," he said. "If you have any outstanding fee, that translates to money. There's a price associated with it. I never paid. That's why I don't have my degree."

The rapper joked about the incident but has plans to give the degree to his mother.

"Tonight, I guess they let me slide," he said. I'm gonna send it to my Mom."
